SIBUR Upgrades Rail Tank Car Fleet

SIBUR has completed an investment project involving the purchase of 1 590 railway tank cars to transport LPGs, NGLs and liquid chemicals.

Over 3 billion roubles were spent on the new tank cars, which were manufactured by «Azovmash», «Saransk Railcar Repair Works» and «Railcar Manufacturing Company of Mordovia».

This investment will make it possible to expand annual shipments with own rail tank car fleet by 1,7 mn tonnes and to mitigate the logistical risks of using railway tank cars belonging to third parties. Besides own rail tank car fleet will reduce transportation expenses by strategic management of relocation and by using schemes of trailing loading within transportation.

Background:

Rail shipments of feedstock and SIBUR products are handled by a company’s subsidiary called CJSC «PO Spetstsisterny».

Enterprise’s railway car fleet consists of 2749 railway tank cars to transport liquid gas, 743 railway tankers to transport petrochemicals, gas and liquid chemical products as well as 188 multi-purpose open box cars. In 2007 Spetstsisterny transported 5,7 mn tonnes of feedstock and products including 0,5 mn tones by renewed fleet.

In the beginning of 2008 SIBUR Vice-president Petr Degtyarev was appointed general director of CJSC «PO Spetstsisterny».
