Vorsino, Kaluga Region, 9 October 2019. Freight Village Vorsino has seen the opening of a logistics hub that will distribute SIBUR's polymer products, including those to be delivered from ZapSibNeftekhim. The opening ceremony was attended by Dmitry Denisov, Deputy Governor of the Kaluga Region, Oleg Makarov, member of the Management Board and Executive Director at SIBUR, and Sandro Straub, Deputy CFO at Karl Schmidt Spedition GmbH & Co. KG (KSS).

With a total area exceeding 35,000 sq m, the logistics hub boasts a capacity of 670,000 tonnes per year, with the potential for expansion. The hub is set to annually process up to 500,000 tonnes of SIBUR's polymer products. The yard for 1,300 40-feet containers and the upgraded storage area are able to accommodate over 40,000 tonnes of polymers, and ensure timely deliveries to buyers. The packaging shop capacity is 290,000 tonnes per year or 1,150 tonnes per day.

SIBUR's products will be delivered from its production sites in dry bulk containers, a transportation method unique in Russia and more efficient compared to the conventional transportation in pallets, as it allows to transport more cargo. Part of production and logistics operations associated with packaging will be moved from Tobolsk to the region of destination, which will help significantly optimise SIBUR’s polymer delivery logistics.

SIBUR will use the hub to ship its products to the Central Federal District and Eastern Europe, with KSS-RUS selected as the contractor to provide comprehensive freight processing services, including packaging, storage and loading.

Dmitry Denisov, Deputy Governor of the Kaluga Region, said:

“Logistics centres and logistics in general are the lifeblood of our economy that help drive up economic activity, build new production sites and create new jobs. Given the large size of the country, logistics costs are notoriously high in Russia. The new logistics centre in the very heart of the Moscow urban agglomeration on the border with the Kaluga Region could not be more important as it is the area where a wide range of industrial polymer consumers are located.”

Oleg Makarov, member of the Management Board and Executive Director at SIBUR, said:

“The new logistics hub will enable SIBUR to move part of its production processes closer to the consumers and cater better for their needs. I am convinced that the availability of cheap polymer feedstock in the region will become a major driver for our key customer industries such as car manufacturing, utilities and pharmaceuticals.”
