SIBUR becomes member of the European Chemical Industry Council

Vienna, 27 October 2017. SIBUR became a member of the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic). The voting to approve new members and partners took place as part of Cefic's General Assembly. The nominees were over 20 companies from Russia, the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and Hungary.

Also, SIBUR joined the European Ethylene Producers Committee (EEPC), part of Cefic, and for the first time took part in its workshop held on 25–27 October in Dresden.

As a Cefic member, SIBUR will have access to 93 sector groups working on more than 120 chemical product families and to 90 strategy implementation groups focusing on sustainability, innovation, trade, energy and legislation matters in the petrochemical industry.

“Thanks to its membership in Cefic, SIBUR will be able to cooperate with European petrochemical majors more closely by developing broader expertise in regulatory work, sharing lessons learned from implementing large-scale investment projects, marketing new products, and more. This will help strengthen its positions on the domestic and European markets,” said Alexey Kozlov, SIBUR's Management Board member and Managing Director.

In 2015, the Company joined the Responsible Care programme, a global voluntary initiative committed to continuous improvement in health, safety and environmental practices. Cefic's responsibilities include promotion of the programme across Europe to drive corporate responsibility of chemical companies and create a favourable environment for the industry's sustainable development.

For editors:

The European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) is a committed partner to EU policymakers, facilitating dialogue with industry and sharing its broad-based expertise. It represents large, medium and small chemical companies across Europe, which directly provide 1.2 million jobs and account for 14.7% of the global chemical production. Based in Brussels since its founding in 1972, Cefic interacts on behalf of its members with international and EU institutions, non-governmental organisations, the international media, and other stakeholders.

The European Ethylene Producers Committee (EEPC) was founded in 1996 with the purpose of providing a platform for the exchange of non-confidential information relating to the health, safety and environmental issues encountered in the production and handling of ethylene. The Committee is part of the Lower Olefins Sector Group within Cefic and has an active membership of operating companies and technology providers involved in ethylene production in Europe. The Main Committee has a current membership of 22 plus associate members from companies involved in ethylene production outside Europe. There is a close cooperation with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers which is hosting the US Ethylene Producers Committee.
