SIBUR signs cooperation agreements with the leading institutes of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences

Novosibirsk, 27 August 2018. During the Sixth International Forum of Technological Development TECHNOPROM–2018, SIBUR signed cooperation agreements with two Novosibirsk institutes of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) such as the Vorozhtsov Institute of Organic Chemistry and the Institute of Cytology and Genetics.

SIBUR anticipates long-term cooperation with the Institute of Organic Chemistry in the development of organic synthesis products and processes; synthesis and modification of polymers; technology and engineering solutions based on the products developed in petrochemical, gas-to-chemicals, energy and environmental sectors and surpassing the scientific and technical level of both foreign and domestic technologies, catalysts and media.

“It is not just fundamental research that our institute does. We solve many applied tasks as well. Thanks to cooperation with such a large company as SIBUR, we can better understand the market needs and concentrate our research efforts on the right areas. Besides, the products and solutions that we already have, such as polymer stabilisers and new material technologies, could find straight away application at SIBUR facilities. We will be happy to cooperate in production or development of new sought-after technologies”, said Denis Abashev, Deputy Director for Innovations and Economy at the RAS SB Institute of Organic Chemistry.

Plans for cooperation with the science institutes of the Novosibirsk Academic town embrace developing new, non-infringing technical solutions measuring up to the world's and Russia's best counterparts; improving the existing solutions; ensuring scientific and technical support for their implementation at SIBUR’s facilities; providing additional training for the Company's employees; assisting in research; and training experts at science institutions.

“SIBUR is keen to collaborate with Russian and foreign institutes that develop new products and technologies in chemistry and is open for cooperation with all those interested. One of SIBUR’s goals is to create products that would be new and novel not only for the Company, but also nationwide and that would one day successfully compete in export markets as well”, says Dmitry Stepkin, Head of Corporate R&D at SIBUR.

The agreement with the Institute of Cytology and Genetics involves cooperation in biotechnology solutions and processes based on them. In the next few years, the parties plan to come up with a package of joint developments to be rolled out at SIBUR’s facilities.
