The Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies (Rusnano) provided research laboratory center NIOST with a certificate of compliance with the requirements of the NANOCERTIFICA system of voluntary certification for industrial nanotechnologies production for experimental laboratories.
The certification will enable the lab center to conduct analytical, technological and industrial expert appraisal of the projects submitted to Rusnano for consideration. The area of acknowledged competence has been defined by physical and mechanical methods of trial of plastics, elastomers, paints, varnishes and lacquers as well as nanosized structures. The scope of test methods includes the measurement of physical properties such as hardness and density, structural tests and dynamic mechanical analysis of nanomaterials.
Research laboratory center NIOST was founded in July 2009 with the purpose to provide methodical and analytical support to research and development. Its main objectives were to conduct physical and chemical analysis of structure and properties of materials, to determine mixtures’ composition, to assess compound purity, to carry out quantitative and qualitative analysis of substances and to measure mechanical properties of materials.
NIOST LLC is a subsidiary of the SIBUR Holding Company set up as its research center for chemical technologies. NIOST was the first resident of the technological-and-innovative Special Economic Zone created in Tomsk in 2006.
Its research division comprises six laboratories of different types engaged in modeling various processes. The Laboratory of Physical and Chemical Methods of Research provides methodical and analytical support to R&D with the help of state-of-the-art equipment, unique in this country, using thermo- analytical, spectroscopic, resonance, radiographic, chromatographic and mass spectrographic techniques. The Laboratory of Polymeric Composite Materials deals primarily with the development of compounds with predetermined properties on the basis of polypropylene, polyethylene and thermoplastic elastomers. The Laboratory of Catalysts and Catalytic Systems centers on catalysts for processes of the production of monomers for plastics, olefinic rubbers, propylene oxide, and some other products such as alcohols, aldehydes, acids and aromatic compounds. The Laboratory of Plastics Synthesis works on technologies for introduction of plastics production techniques to subsidiaries of the holding company. It also engages in developing polymers with a high degree of structure and composites on their basis. The Laboratory of Petrochemical Synthesis works primarily on low-tonnage technologies of manufacturing expensive products of organic synthesis. It also develops homogenous and heterogeneous applied catalytic systems for current and new production processes using raw materials always available from stock. The Laboratory of Synthetic Rubbers works on the development and perfection of synthetic rubbers production technologies as well as on new technologies for the production of promising rubbers by the company plants.
