SIBUR successfully delivers purge column to Tobolsk

Tobolsk, 20 August 2010. The first units of large-sized equipment were delivered to the construction site of the company "Tobolsk-Polymer". In particular, the shipment includes one of two purge columns that are 39.5 metres in length, 4.6 metres in diameter, and weigh 60 tonnes.

The columns for one of the world's largest polypropylene production complexes, erected by SIBUR, were manufactured in Korea and shipped by sea across the Indian Ocean and through the Suez Canal to Antwerp, at which point it was then reloaded and brought to Russia to the industrial port of Tobolsk-Neftekhim. To transport such goods to Tobolsk, major works were carried out in terms of the dredging and the expansion of the technical capabilities of the port.

The large-sized equipment shall be delivered to the construction site of “Tobolsk-Polymer” in the period from the third quarter of 2010 to the fourth quarter of 2011. Within the scope of the envisioned construction work, a total of 23 units of large-sized heavy equipment are expected to arrive in Tobolsk, including a column for the propane dehydrogenation plant. Its diameter is 10 metres, and it is about 100 metres in length and weighs 1096 tonnes. In August, the column had reached Arkhangelsk. Then the equipment was transported on a special barge via the Northern Sea Route and subsequently shipped to the industrial port of Tobolsk on the Irtysh River. With respect to its complexity and the technological and human resources that were exploited, the delivery of this equipment is unique for both the global and Russian petrochemical industry.

In addition, in 2010 alone, amongst the general freight to be supplied to Tobolsk, the company is expecting the arrival of more than 650 containers, 100 railway cars and 470 highway freighters.
