Social investment and community development

The sustainability of SIBUR’s business is tied to the social and economic development of our host regions. We care about what is going on around us by supporting social initiatives to improve the quality of life and well-being of local communities and unlock growth and development opportunities for local residents.

We invest in social and economic development across our footprint by providing grants to local organisations and volunteer associations, promoting interregional initiatives, maintaining a corporate volunteer programme, and supporting local social entrepreneurs.

SIBUR actively cooperates with government and non-government associations, performs its obligations under agreements on social and economic cooperation with regional authorities, and participates in the work of public councils.

Engaging with local communities

Authorities and regulators

Our strategic partnerships with regional and municipal authorities are based on the principles of collaboration, openness, and responsibility.

By concluding agreements on social and economic cooperation with a focus on the real needs of local communities, and participating in working groups at all government levels, we are able to unlock new opportunities for local community development and improve the quality of life locally.

Local communities

We engage with local communities as part of our Formula for Good Deeds initiatives, tours of the Company’s facilities, and the Open SIBUR programme. We also rely on public councils as important platforms for dialogue with local residents on issues of industrial safety, environment protection, human resource policies, and social responsibility of our enterprises, as well as initiatives to improve the well-being of local people.

When planning investment projects, SIBUR holds public hearings as part of the environmental impact assessment procedure

Social investment

The Formula for Good Deeds social investment programme is the centrepiece of our local community development efforts.

It relies on contests of social projects as a key tool for maximising stakeholder engagement in our joint social activities. The programme has been running in 23 regions of Russia with a focus on six priority areas that cover all key elements of local community development: urban improvement, education and science, sports, environmental protection, culture, and volunteering.

We place major emphasis on building community capacity and empowering local communities to deliver positive change.

To be selected for the programme, all projects are required to:

  • Have a long-term sustainable impact
  • Engage local communities in improving local social environment
  • Ensure feedback collection and information exchange among programme participants
  • Develop the competencies of project organisers and volunteers
  • Involve employees in volunteering and social projects
  • Develop partnerships in the area of sustainable development, including waste recycling and waste management
