SIBUR and RWB launch project to voluntarily offset carbon footprint of order deliveries

15 April 2026. SIBUR and RWB (the merged company of Wildberries & Russ) have launched Russia’s first tool for voluntarily offsetting the carbon footprint of online order deliveries. Now, through the “RWB Participation” platform, users can make their marketplace purchases carbon neutral in just a few clicks.

Users can view the climate impact of their online orders and fully offset it using Russian carbon units through their personal account on the “RWB Participation” platform. For more than 90% of deliveries, the cost of offsetting the carbon footprint will amount to just RUB 3 to RUB 5, making participation in climate initiatives accessible to a very broad audience. The calculation does not depend on product price and takes into account factors such as transport type, route distance, cargo volume and weight, as well as fuel consumption.

The accuracy of each indicator is ensured through data from shipping documentation completed during cargo transportation. The carbon footprint calculation methodology itself is based on an analysis of Wildberries’ historical logistics data and has been independently verified by Bureau Veritas, a global leader in certification services. The carbon units used to offset delivery emissions were generated through large-scale climate projects implemented by SIBUR — one of the leaders of the climate market — in the field of energy efficiency improvement. The results of these projects were verified and registered in the national carbon registry.

Oksana Gogunskaya, CEO of Kontur, the national carbon unit operator, commented:

“The launch of the joint RWB and SIBUR project is a landmark event for the development of Russia’s carbon unit market. We are seeing climate initiatives move beyond purely corporate agendas and become accessible to every citizen. This is precisely the case where major businesses create infrastructure for the conscious participation of millions of people in low-carbon development. I am convinced that such initiatives help shape a culture of responsible consumption and contribute to achieving national sustainable development goals.”

The service also includes a loyalty programme: users who offset the carbon footprint of their deliveries receive “Yagodki” (“Berry”) cashback points that can be spent on future Wildberries purchases, as well as personalised offset certificates and exclusive rewards on the “RWB Participation” platform. The project is therefore aimed at promoting conscious consumption, increasing public awareness of greenhouse gas reduction initiatives, and engaging the public in climate action.

According to a survey conducted earlier this year by the RWB Research Centre among more than 1,600 respondents, demand for environmentally friendly delivery services among Russians is significant: 50% of all customers and 62% of “RWB Participation” users consider it important. Greenhouse gases and carbon footprint are among the most familiar topics for respondents (61% and 45% respectively rated their knowledge as high). At the same time, concepts such as decarbonisation (more than 60% reporting low awareness), carbon units (57%), and carbon offsetting (53%) remain less understood. According to RWB Research analysts, the audience generally understands environmental issues at a household level but is less familiar with climate policy tools and mechanisms. Educational content has therefore been integrated into the project.

Mikhail Karisalov, Chairman of the Management Board of SIBUR, stated:

“The climate agenda knows no industry boundaries. Success in this area directly depends on the ability to unite efforts for the common good. SIBUR possesses proven expertise in implementing large-scale climate projects: we have already completed 12 projects with an effect totalling 5.4 million verified carbon units. However, to transform this expertise into real engagement of millions of people, it is necessary to collaborate with those who interact with mass audiences every day. Our partnership with RWB is an example of such synergy: an industrial leader and an e-commerce leader creating a precedent for climate responsibility at an entirely new level.”

Tatyana Kim, Head of RWB and founder of Wildberries, commented:

“Such climate initiatives are an integral part of our sustainable development strategy. For us, it is important not simply to give people the technical ability to ‘press a button,’ but also to explain why it matters. We want to build long-term awareness rather than conduct a one-time campaign. Together with SIBUR, which shares our values, we are combining our best competencies and effectively creating a carbon unit market for ordinary people from scratch, enabling them to consciously participate in the green agenda alongside the state and businesses.”

The service was launched as part of an agreement on implementing a new sustainable development project signed by RWB and SIBUR at the 2025 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
