SIBUR develops colourless polystyrene grade for home appliance and household goods manufacturers

23 April 2026. SIBUR has developed a new grade of general-purpose polystyrene, GPPS 537 Crystal. The material is completely colourless and is intended for the production of large household appliance components and household consumer goods. The new grade was developed by the SIBUR PolyLab applied development centre and has already been launched into industrial production at Nizhnekamskneftekhim.

Previously produced GPPS grades gave finished products a violet tint, limiting colouring possibilities, especially where strict compliance with manufacturers’ corporate colours was required. The new GPPS 537 Crystal grade solves this issue by eliminating unwanted tints, expanding the available colour palette, and improving the stability of products’ visual characteristics.

Applications for GPPS 537 Crystal include a wide range of consumer goods products, with key uses in large household appliances such as refrigerators, as well as household goods. Thanks to its optical transparency and absence of tint, the material serves as a universal platform for further colouring and product design.

The material enables the production of colourless, tint-free finished products with minimal equipment adjustments, lowering the barrier to implementation and ensuring predictable results in mass production.”
